Opening Salvo

Am I the only one that sees a problem with a local church pastor selling guns?
In an article by Josh Lanier in Monday's Independent Tribune, Mike Threadgill, owner of Eagle Guns and pastor of Gordon Heights Baptist Church said business is booming (no pun intended).
There is so many things wrong with this article I don’t know where to begin.
According to the article, Mike said he believes people have the right to own guns for protection and believes more crimes may be prevented if people owned more guns.
Really?
I would never have guessed a gun shop owner would advocate people owning more guns. Hell, I’m surprised he didn’t suggest people buy a gun for every room in their house, and if he did, I’m more surprised Josh didn’t print the quote in this Eagle Guns fluff piece.
Come on; you never know when someone might break into your house while you’re in the throne room.
Apparently, a 60% increase in gun sales isn’t enough for the good pastor. Next thing you know this pastor will be advocating children bringing guns to school – but only if you buy them from him.
Did I miss something?
Did the Pope delete the passage, “Thou shall not kill?”
I wonder what his sermons are like.
“Remember, we are all God’s children, but if one of those children should break into your house, do unto him before he does it to you. To make sure, please visit Eagle Guns and tell them Pastor Mike sent you and receive a 15% discount.”
I guess he’s got to pay for gas somehow.
The worst part of this article comes from Josh himself.
He’s not even trying to be objective.
In the second part of this article Josh interviews Darrell Noles whose father was killed in the recent Sun-drop shooting.
I can only guess at the type of questions Josh asked to illicit Nole’s quote: “If my father would have had a concealed weapon, he could have protected himself.”
No he could not. Sadly, it all happened too damn fast for anyone to react. All that would have happened is the killer would have walked away with the cash 'and' and new gun.
I can at least understand Darrell's point of view considering what just happened, but what I don’t understand is the need to interview a person whose father was just killed by a gun-toting criminal and expect to get any other response then what you got.
Good objective reporting there Josh.
For your next trick make sure you show up at a house fire and ask the father who just lost his wife and six children how he feels.
Where did you get your journalism degree – a crackerjack box?
